Built against the official NFPA CFI Program Overview (2025) blueprint. The CFI replaced CFI-I and CFI-II — NFPA stopped accepting new applications for those on 30 June 2026 — and consolidates the three inspector levels that used to live in NFPA 1031 into one credential. The real exam is 72 questions in 3 hours, open book, plus a practicum. Coverage follows the published domain weighting: Administrative 24%, Legal 5%, Field Inspection 55%, Plans Review 16%.
Written against NFPA 1030 (2024) Ch. 7 · NFPA 1, 13, 25, 72, 101. The exam is open book, but only on the printed NFPA 1, 13, 25, 72 and 101 and the IFSTA manual — the NFPA handbooks are not allowed in the room. Your jurisdiction may enforce different editions of those standards than the ones NFPA tests; the adopted edition governs the building, the exam still tests the editions above.

The real NFPA exam runs 3 hours at Prometric: 72 multiple-choice questions, open book — the printed NFPA 1, 13, 25, 72 and 101 plus the IFSTA Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement Manual are the only references allowed, and the NFPA handbooks are not. A practicum is required in addition to the exam. NFPA reports pass/fail rather than a score, so 70% here is a study benchmark. Certified Fire Inspector (CFI)
NFPA's fire inspector credential, and the successor to CFI-I/CFI-II — it consolidates the three inspector levels that used to live in NFPA 1031 into a single certification built on NFPA 1030 (2024) Ch. 7. The exam is open book and heavily weighted toward the field: Field Inspection alone is 55%, with Administrative 24%, Plans Review 16% and Legal 5%. Because the body of knowledge spans NFPA 1, 13, 25, 72 and 101, knowing WHICH standard governs a finding matters as much as knowing the rule.
