NICET Level I Water-Based Inspection — The Course
Inspect, test and write it up to NFPA 25 — and know where every answer is

Where the official exam weight actually sits
Per NICET’s ITWBS Level I Content Outline (exam updated June 2, 2025). Built on NFPA 25 (2023) + OSHA 29 CFR 1910.
When you finish, you'll be able to
- Find any NFPA 25 (2023) or OSHA 1910 answer at the exam’s pace of about one minute a question
- Work safely on an ITM job — PPE, lockout/tagout, ladders and lifts, confined spaces, tools and GFCI
- Tell wet, dry, preaction, deluge, antifreeze and standpipe systems apart in the riser room
- Identify control, drain and test valves, gauges, and alarm and supervisory devices, and read their condition
- Carry out a visual inspection of sprinklers, piping, hangers, FDCs and hose connections
- Inventory a riser and record sprinkler and valve data accurately for a preliminary report
- Exercise control valves, test waterflow and supervisory devices, run a main drain test, flush hydrants and exercise hose valves under supervision
- Handle an impairment from tag-out to restoration

Continuing education
Finish every lesson and you can print a completion certificate with the date and an estimated course length. NICET counts one CPD point per hour of training when no CEUs are issued, and does not pre-approve providers. LifeSafetyWiki is not an accredited CEU provider. Training only counts if it added to your knowledge, so whether this course counts toward your recertification is your call and NICET’s — keep the certificate with your CPD records. NICET Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems (ITWBS) — Level I
NICET’s entry credential for sprinkler and water-based fire protection inspectors: identify components and their condition, operate valves and alarm tests under supervision, and write up what you find to NFPA 25. Not to be confused with NICET Water-Based Systems Layout (WBSL), the designer track.
