When you finish, you'll be able to
- Find any NFPA 72 (2022), NEC (2020) or Ugly’s answer inside the two-minute-per-question pace
- Explain how detection works — fire stages, products of combustion, smoke vs heat detection
- Apply basic electricity to fire alarm circuits: Ohm’s law, series/parallel, EOL supervision, voltage drop
- Place and check initiating devices and notification appliances against Chapters 17 and 18
- Inspect, test and document a system to Chapter 14 frequencies and Chapter 7 records
- Work safely on a job site — PPE, lockout/tagout, ladders and lifts, first aid
- Read floor plans, riser diagrams and symbols the way a Level I technician must

Continuing education
Finish every lesson and you can print a completion certificate with the date and the measured narration time. NICET counts one CPD point per hour of training when no CEUs are issued, and does not pre-approve providers. LifeSafetyWiki is not an accredited CEU provider. Training only counts if it added to your knowledge, so whether this course counts toward your recertification is your call and NICET’s — keep the certificate with your CPD records. Cost note
Fee effective August 1, 2026 (was $230 before). Open-book: NFPA 72 (2022), NFPA 70 (2020), and Ugly's Electrical References (2020) are permitted in the room — permanently-tabbed and highlighted, but no handwritten notes and no NFPA Handbook substitute.
Eligibility
Minimum 6 months full-time-equivalent experience with fire detection and signaling systems, plus supervisor-verified Level I Performance Measures (job-site safety awareness, identifying common FAS equipment, safe tool use, proper installation technique, and reading drawings/specifications). Higher levels require additional documented field experience.
Renewal
