What you get, and what your employer still does
- Contact hours
- Up to 1 hour — the time you are actually active, rounded down to the half hour
- Final assessment
- 12 questions, 70% to pass, retakes allowed
- Employer’s part
- Your employer finishes the job: where the extinguishers are in your area and which types, whether you are expected to use them or to evacuate, how to raise the alarm, and — for anyone designated to fight fires — hands-on practice with a live or simulated fire.
- Repeat it
- Every year. Where extinguishers are provided for employees to use, OSHA requires education at hire and at least annually (1910.157(g)(2)).
When you finish, you'll be able to
- Name the five classes of fire and choose the right extinguisher for each
- Decide when to fight a fire and when to leave
- Use an extinguisher with PASS, and know how little time it gives you
- Know where extinguishers must be and how high they are mounted, including Georgia’s 48-inch rule
- Do the monthly check and know what annual and long-term service involves
- Handle a commercial kitchen fire: hood system first, Class K second
How this course works · 1-minute read
Lessons are slides
Use Back / Next or the ← → arrow keys. The gold bar above each slide jumps to any slide, and marks the Quick Checks before you reach them.
Quick Checks
17 short questions sit inside the lessons. Pick an answer and the right one and the explanation appear straight away. They are practice — nothing is recorded.
Every answer has a source
Citation cards name the regulation or standard behind a slide; OSHA and EPA citations open the official text. Nothing comes into this exam room, so the course flags what to memorize.
Your place is saved
Sign in and the course remembers the slide you stopped on. A lesson is marked done when you press Mark lesson complete on its last slide — you can unmark it to study it again.
Then the final and your employer
A 12-question final assessment (70% to pass) unlocks the certificate with your contact hours. Then print the practical checkoff: your employer’s competent person covers your site and checks you hands-on.
Final assessment
12 questions · 70% to pass · opens when every lesson is done
Continuing education
Finish every lesson and pass the final assessment and you can print a completion certificate with the date, the course version and your measured contact hours — the time you were active in the course, rounded down to the half hour. Contact hours on a certificate of completion. Certifying bodies decide what counts toward recertification; LifeSafetyWiki is not an IACET-accredited provider.
