What you get, and what your employer still does
- Contact hours
- Up to 1 hour — the time you are actually active, rounded down to the half hour
- Final assessment
- 15 questions, 70% to pass, retakes allowed
- Employer’s part
- Your supervisor finishes the job: inspect at least one fire door together from both sides, measure the clearances, and write up a deficiency on the form your site uses. NFPA 80 asks that the inspector understand the operating parts of the kind of door being inspected — that comes from practice on your own doors.
- Repeat it
- Every year, before the annual door inspections, or whenever your adopted edition of NFPA 80 changes.
When you finish, you'll be able to
- Know who may inspect fire doors, how often, and what the record must show
- Check a swinging fire door against all 13 items NFPA 80 lists
- Measure head, edge, meeting-edge and bottom clearances and judge them against the limits
- Test closing, coordinator order and latching from full open
- Recognize auxiliary hardware, field modifications and sign problems that fail a door
- Write a deficiency someone can repair from, and know what happens after the inspection
How this course works · 1-minute read
Lessons are slides
Use Back / Next or the ← → arrow keys. The gold bar above each slide jumps to any slide, and marks the Quick Checks before you reach them.
Quick Checks
32 short questions sit inside the lessons. Pick an answer and the right one and the explanation appear straight away. They are practice — nothing is recorded.
Every answer has a source
Citation cards name the regulation or standard behind a slide; OSHA and EPA citations open the official text. Nothing comes into this exam room, so the course flags what to memorize.
Your place is saved
Sign in and the course remembers the slide you stopped on. A lesson is marked done when you press Mark lesson complete on its last slide — you can unmark it to study it again.
Then the final and your employer
A 15-question final assessment (70% to pass) unlocks the certificate with your contact hours. Then print the practical checkoff: your employer’s competent person covers your site and checks you hands-on.
Final assessment
15 questions · 70% to pass · opens when every lesson is done
Continuing education
Finish every lesson and pass the final assessment and you can print a completion certificate with the date, the course version and your measured contact hours — the time you were active in the course, rounded down to the half hour. Contact hours on a certificate of completion. Certifying bodies decide what counts toward recertification; LifeSafetyWiki is not an IACET-accredited provider.
