Employer’s part
OSHA expects the online part to be finished on site: your employer’s competent person shows you the hazards and systems on your job, checks you hands-on with your harness and ladders, explains the rescue plan, and signs the written certification 1926.503(b) requires.
Repeat it
OSHA requires retraining when the site or equipment changes or a worker’s knowledge falls short (1926.503(c)) — not on a fixed schedule. Many employers refresh yearly.

When you finish, you'll be able to

  • Name the heights that trigger fall protection: 6 feet in construction, 4 feet in general industry, more than 10 feet on scaffolds, and 19 inches for access
  • Recognize a compliant guardrail, hole cover, warning line and safety monitor
  • Inspect and use a personal fall arrest system within OSHA’s limits, and check fall clearance before tying off
  • Explain why prompt rescue matters and what suspension trauma is
  • Choose, inspect, set up and climb ladders the way Subpart X requires
  • Know what your employer must still do: site-specific training, a hands-on check and the written certification
How this course works · 1-minute read
Lessons are slides
Use Back / Next or the ← → arrow keys. The gold bar above each slide jumps to any slide, and marks the Quick Checks before you reach them.
Quick Checks
28 short questions sit inside the lessons. Pick an answer and the right one and the explanation appear straight away. They are practice — nothing is recorded.
Every answer has a source
Citation cards name the regulation or standard behind a slide; OSHA and EPA citations open the official text. Nothing comes into this exam room, so the course flags what to memorize.
Your place is saved
Sign in and the course remembers the slide you stopped on. A lesson is marked done when you press Mark lesson complete on its last slide — you can unmark it to study it again.
Then the final and your employer
A 15-question final assessment (70% to pass) unlocks the certificate with your contact hours. Then print the practical checkoff: your employer’s competent person covers your site and checks you hands-on.

Continuing education

Finish every lesson and pass the final assessment and you can print a completion certificate with the date, the course version and your measured contact hours — the time you were active in the course, rounded down to the half hour. Contact hours on a certificate of completion. Certifying bodies such as BCSP and NICET decide what counts toward recertification; LifeSafetyWiki is not an IACET-accredited provider.
